Rye custom home project overview

Our client lives in a quiet street in Rye, a beautiful town on the Mornington Peninsula. Rye is a seaside village that spans both Port Phillip Bay to the north and Bass Strait to the south.

Initially, the client intended to renovate the existing home on the property and extend. However, the decision was made to clear the site for the design and build of a new custom home.

We couldn't be happier with our new home, thanks to the incredible work of Hedges Built! From the initial planning stages to the final touches, they showcased professionalism and skill. Not only did they deliver high-quality, but they also went above and beyond to ensure we moved in before Christmas. The attention to detail exceeded our expectations. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire team for making our dream home a reality. We wholeheartedly recommend Trent for anyone looking for top-notch craftsmanship and outstanding service.

Two large existing trees were carefully managed throughout the new custom home build to maintain their beautiful habit. The trees provide important shading for the front of the home, as well as increased privacy.

Once the custom home was completed, landscaping was carried out to finish the project. Again, the landscaping was completed with the family and location firmly in mind.

A low maintenance design was chosen that suits the seaside environment. After all, who wants to garden on the weekends when you have some of the best beaches, golf courses, cafes and restaurants on your doorstep?

Features of the garden include extensive use of decomposed granite, in addition to well-placed boulders, rocks, grasses and groundcovers.

In the backyard, extensive areas of lawn were laid to provide a perfect place for kids and animals to run around. There are two sections of lawn. One is terraced to suit the slope of the land.

For outdoor living, a large patio was built off the back of the home to partly cover a large timber deck. An additional uncovered area includes bench style seating, large paving steps and a firepit surrounded by decomposed granite. A perfect spot to warm up and relax when the weather turns cold.

Project outcomes

Nestled in the vibrant seaside town of Rye, this family’s dream home seamlessly blends charm and function. The adorable flat-roof bungalow isn’t just visually captivating, it’s a financial masterpiece. In Rye’s thriving property market, where median house prices are climbing towards $1.2 million and houses vanish in a mere 28 days, the Merchant Street property has undergone a remarkable transformation. With a stunning new custom build, its value has soared, securing a comfortable future for the family.
